titleOfInvention | Improvements in the production of pigmented prints, impregnations and coatings on fibrous materials |
abstract | Textiles are printed or coated with a pigmented emulsion, the outer phase of which consists of an aqueous dispersion of a water-insoluble polymer and a water-soluble protective colloid having reactive hydrogen atoms and a cross-linking agent which will react with the protective colloid but not with the polymer, and the inner phase of which consists of an organic water-insoluble volatile solvent having a boiling point above 75 DEG C. The material is subsequently heated to react the colloid with the cross-linking agent. Suitable protective colloids are casein, polyvinyl alcohol, ammonium salts of partly-saponified polyacrylic acid esters, water-soluble alginates, tragacanth and methyl cellulose. Volatile solvents specified are gasoline, benzene, xylene, toluene and trichlorethylene, and examples of suitable cross-linking agents are polymethylene diethyleneimines, ethylene-imides of polybasic acids, i.e. the reaction products of ethyl oxalate or aliphatic disulphochlorides with ethyleneimine, polyisocyanates, and adducts of diisocyanates and malonic esters, acetoacetic esters or bisulphites. In examples, (1) a fabric is coated with a composition comprising lacquer benzine dispersed in an aqueous dispersion containing a polymethylene diethyleneimine having 8 to 18 C atoms in the chain, an interpolymer of butyl acrylate, styrene and vinyl isobutyl ether, and ammonium caseinate, and is then dried and heated to 120 DEG C.; (2) a fabric is printed with an emulsion of heavy benzine in an aqueous outer phase containing copper phthalocyanine, the reaction product of octadecyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, ammonia, the adduct of hexamethylene diisocyanate and sodium bisulphite, an interpolymer of butyl acrylate and vinyl chloride, partly saponified polyacrylic acid ethyl ester, and thiodiglycol, and the fabric is then dried and heated to 140 DEG C., (3) fabric is printed with a pigmented emulsion of benzine in an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl propionate containing 2, 4-toluylene-di-isocyanate-bisulphite adduct, polyvinyl alcohol and ammonia; and (4) fabric is printed with an emulsion containing lacquer benzine and trichlorethylene dispensed in a pigmented aqueous phase containing an interpolymer of acrylic acid ethyl ester, styrene and vinyl isobutyl ether, tragacanth, glycerol, ammonia, the reaction product of octadecyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, and the reaction product of oxalic acid diethyl ester and ethyleneimine.ALSO:Textiles are printed with a pigmented emulsion, the outer phase of which consists of an aqueous dispersion of a water-insoluble polymer and a water-soluble protective colloid having reactive hydrogen atoms and a cross-linking agent which will react with the protective colloid but not with the polymer, and the inner phase of which consists of an organic water-insoluble volatile solvent having a boiling point above 75 DEG C. Volatile solvents specified are gasoline, benzene, xylene, toluene and trichlorethylene, and examples of suitable cross-linking agents are polymethylene di-ethyleneimines, ethylene-imides of polybasic acids, e.g. the reaction products of ethyl oxalate or aliphatic disulphochlorides with ethyleneimime, polyisocyanates, and adducts of di-isocyanates and malonic esters, acetoacetic esters or bisulphites. In examples, (2) a regenerated cellulose fabric is printed with an emulsion of heavy benzine in an aqueous outer phase containing copper phthalocyanine, the reaction product of octadecyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, ammonia, the adduct of hexamethylene di-isocyanate and sodium bisulphite, an interpolymer of butyl acrylate and vinyl chloride, partly saponified polyacrylic acid ethyl ester, and thiodiglycol, and the fabric is then dried and heated to 140 DEG C., (3) a cotton fabric is printed with a pigmented emulsion of benzine in an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl propionate containing 2, 4-toluylene di-isocyanate-bisulphite adduct, polyvinyl alcohol and ammonia, dried and heated to 120 DEG C.; and (4) a polyamide fabric is printed with an emulsion containing lacquer benzine and trichlorethylene dispersed in a pigmented aqueous phase containing an interpolymer of acrylic acid ethyl ester, styrene and vinyl isobutyl ether, tragacanth, glycerol, ammonia, the reaction product of octadecyl alcohol and ethylene oxide, and the reaction product of oxalic acid diethyl ester and ethyleneimine, and the fabric is then dried and heated to 100-130 DEG C. |
