titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to setting fabric
abstract Fabrics containing yarn having fibres of a synthetic linear condensation polymer are set by applying an aqueous emulsion and/or solution of an organic swelling agent for the polymer boiling above 160 DEG C., optionally in conjunction with electrolytes, and then heating the treated fabric in a dry hot zone maintained at a temperature of from 160 DEG C. up to 10 DEG C. below the melting point of the polymer. Specified swelling agents for the polymer are benzyl alcohol, phenol, m-cresol, ethylene glycol, glycerol, a - and b -dichlorhydrin, N-diethyl formamide and aniline. Heating may be effected by hot air, superheated steam, a heated roller or infra-red radiation. The fabric may be dried prior to heating. Specified polymers are polyureas, polyurethanes, polyesters such as polyglycol terephthalate and polyamides such as polyhexamethylene adipamide, polytetramethylene adipamide, polyoctamethylene adipamide, polydecamethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene sebacamide and polypentamethylene sebacamide. Specified electrolytes are aluminium sulphate, magnesium sulphate, sodium chloride and sodium thiosulphate. Specification 708,815 is referred to.
