titleOfInvention Process for the production of tetrasubstituted diamino alkanes
abstract The invention comprises diphenyl-dialkyl-alkylene diamines or substituted diaminoalkanes and quaternary salts in which one substituted amino group may be represented by a heterocyclic residue, obtainable by the action of a substituted aminoalcohol ester, especially a halide on a substituted diarylamine in presence of acid-binding agents followed by conversion to salts. In examples, di-o-tolylamine reacts with diethylaminoethyl chloride, b -dimethylaminopropyl chloride, g -dimethylaminopropyl chloride, and many other dialkylaminoalkyl halides to give the corresponding N-(b -diethylaminoethyl-) and other N-dialkylamino-alkyldi-o-tolylamines; N-o-tolyl aniline reacts with g -piperidinopropylchloride and dialkylaminoalkyl halides to give the corresponding N-(g -piperidinopropyl) N-o-tolylaniline and dialkylaminoalkyl-o-tolylaniline. The invention also comprises the salts and quaternary salts of the above amines resulting from the addition of alkyl esters or mineral or organic acids in the customary manner. In an example, N-di-methylaminoethyl di-o-tolylamine is converted to the trimethylammonium iodide with methyl iodide. A list of substituted diarylaminoalkylene dialkylamines, and heterocyclic substituted products is included. Other substituted amino alkyl halides which may react with the diarylamines include pyrrolidinoethyl chloride, and other dialkyl aminoalkyl halides including the bromides and iodides.
