titleOfInvention Manufacture of 1.4-dihydrazinophthalazines
abstract The invention comprises a process for the manufacture of 1 : 4-dihydrazino-phthalazines by treating 1 mol. of phthalic dinitrile or a nuclear substitution product thereof with at least 3 mols. of hydrazine. The reaction may be carried out with the addition of weak acids and at temperatures not exceeding 100 DEG C. In an example phthalic dinitrile is reacted with slightly more than 3 mols. of hydrazine hydrate in dioxane with the addition of acetic acid. The 1 : 4-dihydrazinophthalazine is converted into the following derivatives: di- and tri-acetyl derivatives (by reaction with acetic anhydride at 90 DEG and 130 DEG C.); phthalazine-1 : 4-diphenylhydrazone (by reaction with benzaldehyde); the dipyrazolone (by reaction with aceto-acetic ester; the dihydrazone (by-reaction with acetophenone); and the di-(o-nitrophenylhydrazone (by reaction with o-nitro benzaldehyde).
