titleOfInvention | Anti-viral compounds comprising phenoxy-pyrimidine derivatives and their manufacture |
abstract | The invention comprises halogenated phenoxy-pyrimidines of the general formula <FORM:0706253/IV (b)/1> where X is a halogen atom, Y is halogen, a lower alkyl radical of 1-4 carbon atoms or hydrogen and Z is a halogen or hydrogen atom and their preparation by reacting a phenoxy acetic ester of the formula <FORM:0706253/IV (b)/2> in which R is a lower alkyl group with an alkyl formate such as ethyl formate in the presence of an alkali metal or alkali metal alkoxide and heating the resulting formyl phenoxy acetic ester with thiourea. In examples the ethyl ester of the corresponding halogenated phenoxyacetic acid is reacted with ethyl formate and thiourea to give 5-(21:41-dichlorophenoxy)-4-hydroxy - 2 - mercaptopyrimidine and the corresponding 5 - p - chloro -, 5 p - p - bromo -, 5 - (21:41 - dibromo) -,5 - o - chloro -, 5 - p - iodo, 5 - (21:41:51 - trichloro) -, 5 - (31 - methyl - 41 - chloro) - and 5 - (21 - chloro - 41 - tertiary butyl) - phenoxy - 4 - hydroxy - 2 - mercapto pyrimidines. Halogenated phenoxyacetic esters. The halogenated phenoxyacetic esters used as starting materials, e.g., ethyl p-chlorophenoxyacetate, ethyl p-bromophenoxyacetate and ethyl 2:4-dibromophenoxyacetate are prepared by reacting the corresponding halogenated phenol with an alkoxide such as a sodium alkoxide and a halogeno acetic ester. |
