A high pressure gas container 10 has its cylindrical wall 12 reinforced by a directly applied winding 16 of multifilament yarn having the tensile and elongation properties of nylon yarn, said winding having sufficient strength to minimize and localize the area of rupture of the container when pierced by a projectile, and being applied in either the unstretched condition, or when elongated to less than 25 per cent of its ultimate elongation. The yarn may be of nylon, a viscose rayon, an acrylic or vinyl resin, silk, or a mixture of these materials. Specification 556,801 is referred to. |
