titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to a synthetic resinous coating composition
abstract Solutions of the resins described and claimed in Specifications 703,407 and 703,408 are used for coating, e.g. wood and leather. In one example the resin, zein and o- and p-toluene ethyl sulphonamides are dissolved in methanol to give a solution, which may be thinned, e.g. with a methanol-toluene mixture, for application to a wood surface. This solution may be modified by addition of organic or inorganic pigments, co-polymers of butadiene and acrylonitrile, alkyds, oil-fatty-acid-modified alkyds, oil-soluble phenolic resins, rosin, hydrogenated rosin and dehydrated castor oil. In another example an aqueous solution is made by dissolving in water the resin, an alkali-soluble protein, e.g. casein, soya bean protein, gliadin or zein and an alkali, e.g. ammonia, borax, sodium phosphate or morpholine. In a further example the composition consists of the resin, o- and p-toluene ethyl sulphonamides and methanol, with or without toluene and Caranda or carnauba wax. The composition in the last example is a methanol-toluene solution of the resin, zein, Caranda wax and o- and -p-toluene ethyl sulphonamides.
