titleOfInvention | New anaesthetic compositions |
abstract | An anaesthetic composition for injection comprises an aqueous dispersion of the free acid form of one or more barbituric acid derivatives of the formula: <FORM:0701813/VI/1> where R, R1 stand for hydrocarbon radicals, R11 for hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical, and X for oxygen or radical, and X for oxygen or sulphur, the dispersion containing 1-20 parts of the free acid per 100 parts dispersion, and the greatest linear dimension of the dispersed particles not exceeding 30 microns. The suspension is suitably obtained by ball-milling in the presence of a dispersing agent, e.g. a condensation product of octylphenol with seven molecular proportions of ethylene oxide. Stabilizing agents, e.g. sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, may also be present. In an example, 5-cyclohexen-2-yl-5-allyl.2-thio barbituric acid is dispersed. |
