titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to plasticisers for polymerised vinyl chloride and the like
abstract Polyvinyl chloride or copolymers containing a major proportion of vinyl chloride and a minor proportion of vinyl acetate are plasticized by a linear polyester of 1, 3-butane diol and sebacic acid, having a molecular weight between 1,500 and 10,000. A mixed polyester may be used, prepared by reacting sebacic acid with a mixture of 1, 3-butane diol and up to one unit of 1, 2 propylene glycol per butane diol unit. Also, the plasticizer may comprise a mixture of 1, 3-butane diol sebacate and 1, 2-propylene glycol sebacate, containing up to one propylene glycol unit per butane diol unit. The compositions containing up to 4 per cent. plasticizer are useful as protective coverings over the outer conductors of coaxial cables. Specification 586,826, as accepted and also in the form as open to inspection under Sect. 91, is referred to.
