titleOfInvention | Process for the stabilisation of the active components of pyrethrum |
abstract | The active insecticidal components of dried pyrethrum flowers are preserved by mixing a substance capable of releasing formaldehyde vapour, and a salt of an oxy-acid of sulphur having reducing properties, with the uncrushed or powdered flowers. Whole flowers are preferably compressed into bales after treatment. The substance capable of releasing formaldehyde may be an aqueous solution of formaldehyde or a solid polymer thereof, such as trioxymethoxylene. The oxyacid salt may be an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal sulphite, bisulphite or hydrosulphite. Instead of a mixture of a formaldehyde-releasing substance and a sulphite the formaldehyde sodium bisulphite complex CH2(OH).SO3Na as a powder or a solution or aqueous suspension, may be employed. Specification 572,998 is referred to. |
