titleOfInvention A process of forming benzene hexachloride in benzene solution
abstract Benzene hexachloride having an increased percentage of gamma isomer is produced by reacting benzene and chlorine under irradiation with actinic light in admixture with 0.001 to 0.3 per cent of a nitrotoluene (e.g. 2 : 4-dinitro-, 2 : 6-dinitro-, trinitro- or paranitro-, toluene) at a temperature of 30 DEG to 65 DEG C. In an example benzene is reacted with chlorine at 50 DEG C. in the presence of 2 : 4-dinitrotoluene.
