titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to propelling pencils |
abstract | 693,561. Pencil holders. BINA & BARREY, Ltd., and BARREY, T. F. H. Dec. 29, 1950. [Dec. 29, 1949] No. 33232/49. Class 146 (iii). In a propelling pencil of the type in which lead propulsion is effected by a rear cap 16 frictionally mounted on a rear part 9 rotatable relatively to a barrel 13, a split resilient sleeve 18 is fitted on a portion 9b of the part 9 and is prevented from rotating relatively to the portion 9b by a longitudinal rib 21 formed on the portion 9b and lying within a slot 19 of the sleeve 18. The rib 21 tends to press the sleeve 18 outwardly when the cap 16 is rotated, thus pressing the sleeve 18 more tightly against the inner periphery of a sleeve 17 within the cap 16. The part 9 may be in the form of a magazine for spare leads, the top end of which is closed by an india rubber 10. The sleeve 18 is prevented from axial movement by a shoulder 20 on the portion 9b and the rear end of an outer sheath 1 screwed into the barrel 13. The part 9 is secured to an inner tube 3 within a spiral 2 fixed to the sheath 1, such that rotation of the tube 3 causes axial movement of a longitudinal rod 5 carrying a lead holder 6, the rod 5 being bent at 7 so as to engage the spiral 2. |
