titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to apparatus for crushing ashes of human bodies |
abstract | 692,163. Roller mills. BOULTER, A. W. J. Nov. 13, 1951 [Nov. 18, 1950], No. 28245/50. Class 59 [Also in Group XXX] Apparatus for crushing remains of human bodies such as are formed by cremation comprises a framework 1 with doors 2 forming a cabinet structure containing a delivery shoot 5 which feeds the remains to a pair of crushing rollers 6 from which the preliminary crushed remains are passed by means of a shoot 7 over a rotating magnetic drum to free the remains from ferrous metal, a third shoot 9 conveying the fully crushed ashes to a second pair of crushing rollers 10 which deposit the ashes into a removable tray 11. The particles detached from the drum 8 are deposited into a removable tray 15. The shoots 5 and 7, drum 8, and rollers 6, 10 are driven from an electric motor 19 through a reduction gearbox 20. A switch 24 is arranged to cut off the current to the motor automatically when the doors are opened. The shoot 5 is supported pivotally at 16 and is connected by an arm 17 to the shoot 7 so that both can be vibrated by contact of a nose piece 18 with one of the intermeshing gears of the rollers 6. Any dust arising from the remains during their passage through the apparatus is removed by means of a suction fan 12 and collected in a filter 14. |
