titleOfInvention Aqueous solutions for use in redox catalyst systems
abstract An aqueous solution, for use as an activating component in a redox catalyst system, is prepared by dissolving in water an alkaline pyrophosphate, an iron salt, and a reducing sugar, and heating the resulting solution to an elevated temperature. Suitable ingredients are sodium pyrophosphate, a soluble complex of ferric pyrophosphate and sodium pyrophosphate, ferric chloride or sulphate, glucose, levulose, sorbose, d-ribose and invert sugar. The solution may be boiled at atmospheric pressure for 5-60 minutes. The aqueous solutions are used in conjunction with an oxidizing agent, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, benzoyl peroxide, a cumene hydroperoxide, potassium persulphate, sodium perborate, p or an oil-soluble diazo-thioether as as described in Specification 656,727, [Group IV(a)], and are employed in the polymerization of monomeric materials as described in Specification 691,965, [Group IV(a)].
