abstract A resinous composition forming the surface layer of a floor or wall covering consists of 16 to 38 parts by weight of a vinyl resin, 7 to 18 parts of plasticizer, and 50 to 75 parts of filler. The vinyl resin may be polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl butyral, or a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate. The plasticizer may be tricresyl phosphate, dioctyl-, dicapryl-, dibutoxyethyl-, or di-(butoxyglycol) phthalate, dibutyl sebacate, or triethylene glycol di-2-ethyl hexoate. The filler may comprise fibres or pigment or both, e.g. asbestine, barytes, calcium carbonate or sulphate, clay, dolomite, mica, silica, slate flour, serpentine, talc, chrome green, chrome yellow, carbon black, titanium dioxide, asbestos, cork, wood flour, cellulose fibres, or leather fibres. A lubricant such as stearic acid or barium stearate and a stabilizer such as basic lead carbonate, silicate, or stearate may be added.
