abstract | Dentifrices of the usual composition contain a polyglycol ether, in the molecule of which is present an aliphatic radical having from 6-12 carbon atoms, and in which the ratio of carbon atoms in the aliphatic radical to the number of C2H4O groups is for saturated aliphatic compounds 3:1.75-2.50, for aliphatic-aromatic compounds 1:0.75-1.24, for unsaturated aliphatic compounds 2:0.75-1.40, and for nitrogenous compounds 2:0.75-1.30. Such polyglycol ethers have an an sthetic action, and may be prepared by reacting nonyl alcohol, decyl alcohol, decyl mercaptan, dodecyl alcohol, lauric acid, ethanolamide, lauric acid, undecylenic acid, dodecylamine, or hexylphenol with ethylene oxide. Acid or neutral sulphuric acid esters of the glycols may also be used. In examples, other ingredients of tooth pastes are powdered chalk, 1.2.4 butane-triol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, menthol, cellulose methyl ether, glycerin, peppermint oil, sodium dodecyl sulphonate, carragheen moss, and water. |
