titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to diagnostic compositions
abstract A diagnostic composition for determining the presence of bilirubin in urine comprises a colour-forming diazonium salt, an alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate and a dry soluble acid. Preferably the colour-forming salt is either p-nitro-benzene diazonium p-toluene sulfonate or p-sulphobenzene diazonium 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonate and this is combined with sodium bicarbonate and sulfosalicylic acid. The compounds are formed into a tablet which is placed on an absorbent strip moistened with the urine. The tablet is then wetted and the presence of bilirubin is indicated by a purple stain around the tablet.
