titleOfInvention Improvements relating to the esterification of hydroxy-compounds
abstract Organic hydroxy-compounds are esterified by reacting with a carboxylic acid in the presence of trifluoracetic anhydride. Heat may be required, temperatures of 45-65 DEG C. being specified. In example (5) dry cotton wool or bacterial cellulose is acetylated with glacial acetic acid and trifluoracetic anhydride at 65 DEG C.ALSO:Organic hydroxy-compounds are esterified by reacting with a carboxylic acid in the presence of trifluoracetic anhydride. Heat may be necessary, e.g. temperatures of 45-65 DEG C. are specified. In examples: (1) D-mannitolhexa-acetate; (2) b -naphthyl acetate; (3) phenyl benzoate; (4) p-nitrobenzyl benzoate; (5) cellulose acetate; and (6) sodium alginate acetate are made.
