titleOfInvention Calcium lactate suppositories
abstract Suppositories containing calcium lactate are prepared by incorporating calcium lactate or calcium sodium lactate of particle size 0.01 to 0.001 m.m. in a suppository base such as cocoa butter. The finely divided calcium lactate is obtained by (a) grinding calcium lactate in a ball mill and separating finely divided material by air classification, or (b) dehydrating the calcium lactate to contain not more than 1 to 2 molecules of water of hydration e.g. by heating at 100 DEG C. and 20 to 40 m.m. Hg and grinding in a screen mill. Preferably not more than 1 part of calcium lactate is used per two parts of suppository base. Other medicines may be incorporated in the suppository e.g. vitamin D, vitamin C, rutin, epithelial corpuscle extracts (parathyroid gland hormones) or bile acids.
