abstract | The invention comprises 1-phenyl-1-cyclopentyl-3-piperidinopropanol of the formula <FORM:0678951/IV (b)/1> and its acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts, and a process for preparing the above compound by reacting beta-N-piperidinopropiophenone with a Grignard reagent prepared from cyclopentyl bromide and treating the reaction product with water. The process is preferably carried out in an ether medium. The acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts are formed by the normal methods, e.g. with methyl iodide, methyl sulphate, ethyl iodide, methyl chloride or benzyl bromide, or with hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric, hydrobromic, hydriodic, phosphoric, maleic, citric or cinnamic acid. A number of examples are given. Specifications 307,304, [Class 2 (iii)], 615,136 and 646,198 are referred to. |
