titleOfInvention | Method of plasticising synthetic substances |
abstract | Synthetic substances, particularly those with a high halogen content such as halogenated diolefinic hydrocarbons, polyvinyl chloride, after-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinylidene bromide, and mixed halogenated hydrocarbons are plasticized by compounds of the general formula R.CH(X).R1 where X is a methyl or ethyl group and R and R1 are halogen substituted aryl radicals. Compounds mentioned are bis-(chloronaphthyl) - methane, asymmetrical-1 : 1 - (trichlorophenyl) - ethane, 1 : 1 - bis-(chlorophenyl) - ethane, 1 : 1 - bis - (chloronaphthyl) - propane, and mixtures of these compounds. Specifications 358,703 and 360,840 are referred to.ALSO:Compounds of the general formula R.CH(X).R1, where X is methyl or ethyl and R and R1 are halogen-substituted aryl radicals, useful as plasticizers for synthetic resins having a high halogen content, are prepared by the reaction of the corresponding chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons with asymmetrical dihalogen paraffins or monohalogen olefins such as methylene chloride, 1 : 1-dichloroethane, vinyl chloride, 1 : 1-dichloropropane, and 1-, or 2-chloropropene. Compounds mentioned are bis-(chloronaphthyl)-methane, asymmetrical-1 : 1-(trichlorophenyl)-ethane, (obtained by condensation of 1 : 2 : 4-trichlorobenzene with vinyl chloride or acetylene), 1 : 1-bis (chlorophenyl)-ethane and 1 : 1-bis (chloronaphthyl) propane. Specifications 358,703 and 360,840 are referred to. |
