titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to polymers of monovinyltetra-hydronaphthalenes
abstract a - and b -monovinyltetrahydronaphthalenes are polymerized in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. boron fluoride, boron fluoride etherate, stannous or stannic chloride, benzoyl or inorganic peroxides, air, halogens, oxygen, ozone, halogen acids, light of short wavelength, activated carbon or copper, alone in solution, e.g. in benzene or in suspension, if desired, at elevated temperature, e.g. under reflux and in the presence of inhibitors such as catechol and hydroquinone. The polymers may be removed from solution in benzene by precipitation with methyl alcohol. They may be cast, pressed, extruded, rolled, machined or, with fillers such as a -cellulose, mica dust, zinc, magnesium or titanium oxides, talc, asbestos, quartz, wood flour, cellulose or wool fibres may be injection or pressure moulded. Solutions may be applied to paper or glass cloth to form dielectrics for capacitors or used to make films. Specification 661,368, [Group IV (b)], is referred to.
