titleOfInvention | Improvements in the creaming of natural rubber latex |
abstract | 660,743. Creaming natural rubber latex. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Aug. 30, 1949 [Sept. 11, 1948; Dec. 29, 1948], Nos. 22495/49 and 22496/49. Class 70 Natural rubber latex is creamed by adding formaldehyde, a condensation product of formaldehyde with an alkali-metal salt of an aryl sulphonic acid and a hydrophilic colloidal creaming agent, allowing the treated latex to stand and then separating the cream and serum fractions. Ammonia is also preferably added before the creaming agent so as to raise the pH to above 8. Many examples are given in which the salt is sodium naphthalene sulphonate. The creaming agent may be an alginate such as ammonium alginate, a pectate, extracts of the endosperms of leguminous plants, belonging to the genera Cassia, Ceratonia, Caesalpinia and Poinciana, mucilages obtained from Asfralagus, Acacia, Chondous crispus and Opuntra monocantha, extracts of leaves of Hibiscus rosasinensis, of pods of Hibiscus esculentus, of Crocus and Amaryllis bulbs, of the tubers of Amorphophallus variabilis and rivieri, and of the seeds of Tamarindus indica. |
