titleOfInvention Preparations for use in contact with the teeth
abstract A preparation for use in contact with the teeth is prepared by admixing a salt containing fluorine in its chemical formula with another salt having as cation copper or silver, these salts being soluble in water to at least a very small degree, e.g. at least 0.02 per cent at 70 DEG F for the fluorine-containing salt and at least 0.05 per cent at 70 DEG F for the copper or silver salt. Specified fluorine-containing salts are alkali metal or ammonium fluorides, fluoborates or fluosilicates. According to examples, (1) a toothpaste is made by admixing terra alba (CaSO1), gum tragacanth, sodium coconut oil monoglyceride sulphonate, glycerin, saccharin, peppermint oil, copper sulphate, sodium fluoride and water; (2) a liquid dentifrice is made by admixing ethyl alcohol, sodium lauryl sulphoacetate, saccharin, amaranth dye, spearmint oil, copper sulphate, sodium fluosilicate and water; (3) a mouth wash is made by admixing ethyl alcohol, oleic acid ester of the sodium salt of isethionic acid, saccharin, clove oil, silver nitrate, sodium fluoborate and water, (4) a preparation for topical application is made by mixing ethyl alcohol, peppermint oil, silver nitrate, sodium fluosilicate and water. The employment of cupric chloride, nitrate or acetate is also referred to. Other specified additions are thickening agents such as quince gel or methyl cellulose; abrasives such as pumice; detergents such as the potassium salt of oleic acid amide of N-methyl taurine, the sodium salt of the sulphoacetamide of amino ethyl laurate, the potassium salt of the sulphonic acid derived from the condensation product and a chlorinated kerosene, the mono lauryl ethers of 1, 2-dihydroxypropane-3-sodium sulphonate or of the sodium salt of isethionic acid, alkyl- or alkylaryl-polyglycol ethers such as alkyl mercaptan polyglycol ethers and alkyl phenol polyglycol ethers, and the sodium salt of the sulphuric acid ester of coconut oil higher fatty alcohols. The preparation may also take the form of a chewing preparation. Specification 424,015 is referred to.
