titleOfInvention A process for the concentration of partially polymerised esters
abstract Polymers of a polymerizable organic ester which, when completely polymerized, gives rise to cross linkage between polymer molecules, are concentrated by contacting a partial polymer of the ester with a mixture of two liquids so as to form two phases, the proportion in which the polymer is divided between the two phases being different from the proportion in which the unpolymerized ester is divided between the two phases and separating the two phases. The process is particularly applicable to diallyl phthalate which preferably is polymerized to an extent of from 20 to 40 per cent. The two liquids may be acetone and water, benzene and isopropanol, acetone and isopropanol, methyl ethyl ketone and water, methyl ethyl ketone and isopropanol, or toluene and methyl alcohol. After separation of the two phases the lower phase, which contains most of the polymer, may be treated with a fresh quantity of a mixture of the same two liquids again to form two phases, and the phases formed then separated.
