titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to diagnostic compositions |
abstract | The presence of ketones in body fluids, e.g. urine, is detected or estimated by a colour change in a composition comprising a soluble nitroprusside, e.g. sodium nitroprusside, an aliphatic amino acid, e.g. glycine, alanine, glutamic acid, arginine, aspartic acid or lysine, and an alkaline material, e.g. disodium, dipotassium or trisodium phosphate, or alkaline carbonates or hydroxides. The use of a separate alkaline material may be obviated by employing an alkaline salt of the amino acid, e.g. sodium or potassium glycinate. Diluents such as starch, lactose and sodium borate may be added to the composition which may be employed in powder or tablet form or in solution. |
