abstract | A weather-proof, waterproof coating comprises 18-25 per cent drying oil, 2-8 per cent inert fibrous binder, 10-22 per cent inert leafing material, 10-25 per cent thinner and a drier, the balance being filler to render the composition buttery. Preferably the fibrous binder is short-fibred asbestos, the leafing material mica or flake aluminium, the drying oil a little bodied sardine oil, the filler at least 15 per cent zinc oxide and the thinner oleum spirits. A specified composition consists of fish oil, white lead drier, cobalt drier, fibrous magnesium silicate, titanium oxide barium sulphate filler, zinc oxide, white mica, asbestos floats and oleum spirit. The composition can be sprayed and applied in layers 1/16 inch thick. |
