titleOfInvention Process for preparation of ª‡-phenylacetamido-ª‰, ª‰-diethoxy-propionic acid
abstract a - Phenylacetamido - b : b - diethoxypropionic acid is prepared by treatment of a -amino-b : b -diethoxypropionic acid with phenylacetyl chloride, preferably in the presence of an aqueous alkali, e.g. sodium bicarbonate. a -Amino-b : b -diethoxypropionic acid is prepared by hydrolysis of a -amino-b : b -diethoxypropionitrile hydrochloride with an aqueous alkaline earth metal, hydroxide, e.g. barium hydroxide, followed by precipitation of the barium, for example, with carbon dioxide. a -Amino-b : b -diethoxyethanol, which is prepared by treating glyoxal semidiethyl acetal in ether with ammonia gas, is reacted with liquid hydrogen cyanide for at least 20 hours to give a - amino - b : b - diethoxypropionitrile, which is purified via the hydrochloride.
