titleOfInvention | Improvements in pectin products and the process of making same |
abstract | A streptomycin-pectin compound is obtained by mixing aqueous solutions of the two components and precipitating the compound by the addition of alcohol. The streptomycin may be employed in the form of its sulphate, hydrochloride or phosphate. Specification 642,385, [Group VI], is referred to.ALSO:A medicinal pectin product is prepared by forming a stable suspension in a vegetable oil of a mixture of dry pectin of a particle size small enough to pass through a 20 gauge needle and a solid pharmaceutical agent having a particle size of 50-100 microns, the viscosity of the oil being adjusted by adding more than 4 per cent of an acid-free hydrogenated oil so that settlement does not occur on standing and all the ingredients containing not more than 1 per cent moisture. Alternatively, instead of adjusting the viscosity of the oil, the particle size of the pectin is limited to between 0.1 and one micron. Preferably a mixture of sesame oil or peanut oil and hydrogenated peanut oil is employed. Specified pharmaceuticals are antibiotics such as penicillin X, penicillin F, penicillin G, penicillin dihydro F, penicillin K, penicillin sodium or calcium bacitracin, lumycin and subtilin. streptomycin phosphate or hydrochloride and streptomycin calcium chloride trihydrochloride drugs such as insulin, epinephine, ephedrine; hormones such as estrin, estradiole and stilbesterol; and vitamins such as folic acid, vitamin B1 complex; ascorbic acid and liver extract. According to one example, alcohol and sesame or peanut oil are added in succession to an agitated aqueous solution of pectin. the resulting suspension of pectin is distilled under reduced pressure at 85-95 DEG C until all alcohol and water are removed and sodium crystallin penicillin is added to the resulting suspension of pectin in oil. According to a second example, sesame or peanut oil is emulsified with an aqueous solution of pectin, water is removed by distillation and sodium penicillin is added to the resulting suspension. According to a third example, dried finely-divided pectin and dried penicillin are milled together while maintaining a moisture content of below 1 per cent and a heated mixture of sesame oil or peanut oil with hydrogenated peanut oil is added. Streptomycin and pectin in solution in water forms a clear, easily injectable solution. Specification 642,385 is referred to.ALSO:Pectin of fine particle size is obtained by mixing the pectin with small pieces of dry ice and when it has become chilled, grinding it in a hammer mill and passing the ground product through a mesh screen. Specification 642,385, [Group VI], is referred to. |
