titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to therapeutic substances
abstract A water-soluble stable salt of an ester of vitamin A alcohol of the formula <FORM:0643055/IV (b)/1> where M represents a radical such as Na+, K+, NH4+, or the equivalent amount of Ca++ or Mg++, and X is the residue of a polybasic acid, in which 1 molecule of vitamin A is combined with a molecule of the polybasic acid, which process comprises reacting vitamin A alcohol with an acylating agent and converting the product thus obtained into the mutual water-soluble stable salt required. As polybasic acids there may be used sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, succinic acid, phthalic acid or glutaric acid. The acylating step may be carried out in the presence of pyridine or a -picoline. Detailed examples are given.
