| abstract | A composition for use as the flexible jacket of an electric cable comprises a polymer of vinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, together with a polyester of propylene glycol and sebacic acid as plasticizer and 5-25 per cent by weight of a copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene. Suitable proportions for such a composition are: ..Per cent .Polymerized vinyl chloride - -.44 .Polyester of propylene glycol and. .sebacic acid- - - - -.40 .Copolymer of acrylonitrile and buta. .diene - - - - - -.12 1/2 .Stabilizer (basic lead carbonate) -.2 1/2 .Lubricant (stearic acid) - - -. 1/2 .Pigment (lamp black) - - -. 1/2 This composition is stated to retain its flexibility at temperatures down to -55 DEG C. and at the normal operating temperatures of the cable no detectable migration of the components of the jacket into the cable occurs. The proportions of the various components may be varied slightly within stated limits, and the lubricant and pigment may be omitted altogether if desired. Quantities differing slightly from the above are given in the Provisional Specification. |
