abstract | Acetoxymethyl and a -acetoxyethyl salicylates are manufactured by reacting sodium salicylate with chloromethyl and a -chloroethyl acetate respectively. In examples the reactants are refluxed in methyl ethyl ketone in the presence of potassium iodide. 4-Keto- and 2-methyl-4-keto-1 : 3-benzodioxane are manufactured by heating acetoxymethyl and a -acetoxymethyl salicylate respectively, in the presence of an acid substance, e.g. sulphuric acid. |
