titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to substituted omega-aminoacetophenones and method of preparing the same
abstract Meta - hydroxy - omega - methylaminoacetophenone is prepared by continuously and separately introducing meta-benzoyloxy-omega-bromoacetophenone and methyl amine into a reaction zone containing an alkanol having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, e.g. isopropanol, at a temperature below 65 DEG C. and removing the keto amine from the said reaction zone in a portion of the reaction medium and neutralizing the keto amine containing the product substantially as rapidly as it is formed. Preferably an excess of the amine is employed and a reaction temperature of 45-65 DEG C. is maintained. In an example, m-benzoyloxy-o -bromoacetophenone in isopropanol and aqueous methylamine are gradually added to a reaction vessel and the reacted product is continuously run off into an excess of hydrochloric acid from which m-hydroxy-o -methylaminoacetophenone hydrochloride is isolated.
