titleOfInvention Improvements relating to livestock and poultry feeds
abstract In a livestock or poultry feed is incorporated a natural or synthetic estrogenic substance, exemplified by diethylstilbestrol, dihydrodiethylstilbestrol (hexestrol), dienestrol, 2-4 di (parahydroxyphenyl) 3-ethyl hexane (benzestrol), and mono- and di-ethers and esters of these substances, e.g. diethylstilbestrol dipropionate, dibenzoate or dipalmitate, and the dimethyl ether of diethylstilbestrol. In the feed may be incorporated additionally an artificial thyroprotein, e.g. protamone or iodinated protein, of 3 per cent thyroxine potency or a goitrogenic agent, e.g. thiourea or thiouracil. Example I is concerned with stimulating growth of the udder in lactating goats and dairy cows by the addition per kg. of feed of 0.01-1g. of dimethylether of diethylstilbestrol and, for goats 0.6-4g. or for cows 1-3g. of the artificial thyroprotein per kg. of feed; Example II with stimulating growth of the oviduct, and increasing body weight and the deposition of fat, in chickens by the addition per kg. of feed of 0.05-0.4 g. of dimethylether of diethylstilbestrol and 0.9-1.0 g. of the artificial thyroprotein; Example III with fattening fowls by the addition per kg. of feed, during the growing period, of 0.05-0.4 g. of dimethylether of diethylstilbestrol and 0.09-1.0 g. of the artificial thyroprotein, and, during the fattening period, substituting for the thyro-protein 0.01-0.15 g. of thiourea or thiouracil per kg. of feed; and Example IV with the addition to the feed of animals with simple stomachs of diethylstilbestrol, hexestrol, or benzestrol.
