abstract Chloromethyl - 2 - nitro - 3 - propene - 1 (nitromethallylchloride) is prepared by the action of sodium nitrite on a mixture of methallyl chloride and dilute sulphuric acid at ordinary or moderately raised temperature, the reaction mixture then being fractionated in vacuo.ALSO:Pesticidal compositions comprise one or more unsaturated halogenated compounds containing at least one alkene bond, a tertary carbon atom, and a nitro group, and one or more added liquid, solid or gaseous substances which are inert and act as a diluent or carrier or which themselves have insecticidal, fungicidal or bactericidal properties. Specified compounds are chlor - 1 - methyl - 2 - nitro - 3 - propene-1, chloromethyl-2-nitro-3-propene-1, chlor-2-methyl-3-butene-3 and chloromethyl-2-nitro-1-butene-2. Specified added substances are hydrocyanic acid, carbon disulphide, epoxyethane, formic acid esters, D.D.T., carbon dioxide dichloro-difluoromethane and trichloromonofluoromethane.
