titleOfInvention Process for preparing esters of penicillin g
abstract Lower alkyl esters of penicillin G are manufactured by reacting penicillin G with a lower diazoalkane, e.g. diazomethane or diazoethane. The reaction is preferably effected by adding excess of the diazoalkane to an ethereal solution of penicillin G, preferably in substantially pure form as obtained by acidifying an aqueous solution of crystalline sodium penicillin G, and extracting with ether. Examples describe the preparation of the methyl ester.
