titleOfInvention Method of extracting vitamins from the liver of whale, cod and other marine animals
abstract Vitamin-containing oils are obtained from the liver of whales, cod and other marine animals by means of solvents not miscible with water, for instance trichloroethylene, characterised in that the liver mass before the extraction only is freed from a part only of its water content, e.g. by moderate heating, preferably to 50-70 DEG C., whereupon the solvent is added to the still water-containing or semi-dried liver mass and the mixture is subjected to a vigorous mechanical treatment, during which the liver is finely subdivided, for instance, ground together with the solvent, so that the liver particles and the solvent are mixed intimately and the vitamin-containing oil is dissolved in a solvent which after mechanical treatment is separated from the remaining water-containing residue. A detailed example is given.
