The free esters are prepared by neutralizing an aqueous solution of the ester hydrochloride with sodium bicarbonate solution and extracting with chloroform. Examples p describe the preparation of the methyl and ethyl esters and ester hydrochlorides of d- and dl-penicillamine, and the benzyl ester hydrochloride of d-penicillamine. |
