titleOfInvention Anti-static photographic film
abstract 617,569. Photographic antistatic layers. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Oct. 7, 1946, No. 29901. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1945. Drawings to Specification. [Class 98 (ii)] Photographic material comprises a support carrying an emulsion layer and an antistatic layer comprising a dialkyl ester of phosphoric acid having the formula wherein R is a short chain alkyl group of from 1 to 5 C.atoms and R is an alkyl group of from 5 to 18 C atoms. Compounds specified are methyl amyl, ethyl amyl, propyl octyl, butyl nonyl, amyl decyl, methyl dodecyl, ethyl dodecyl, ethyl tetradecyl, methyl hexadecyl, methyl octadecyl, and ethyl octadecyl hydrogen phosphates. The compounds may be incorporated in a substratum or overcoating layer or on the rear of the support (e.g. in the antihalation layer) or may be applied to either side of an exposed and processed film. The support may be of cellulose acetate, formate, propionate, butyrate, acetate-propionate, acetate-butyrate, or nitrate, of polyvinyl chloride, of a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate or vinylchloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer, or a polyamide, or of a superpolymer, and a gelatin substratum layer containing a dialkyl ester of phosphoric acid applied, or a solution of the ester applied to the coated substratum layer. The ester may be incorporated in the emulsion layer. In examples: (1) a gelatin layer containing methyl dodecyl hydrogen phosphate is applied over a silver halide emulsion layer; (2) a cellulose acetate support is coated with a phenoxyacetic acid-formaldehyde resin containing ethyl tetradecyl hydrogen phosphate; (3) a cellulose nitrate support is coated on the rear side with cellulose acetate containing ethyl octadecyl hydrogen phosphate; (4) a cellulose acetate support is successively coated with gelatin and with a silver halide emulsion containing methyl dodecyl hydrogen phosphate; and (5) a silver halide emulsion layer is overcoated with a gelatin layer containing ethyl dodecyl hydrogen phosphate.
