titleOfInvention Esters of salicyclic acid
abstract 3 - (21 : 61 - Dimethylpiperidino) - propyl salicylate <FORM:0617190/IV(b)/1> and its acid addition salts are prepared by esterification, e.g. by the reaction preferably in an inert solvent of a salicylyl halide with 3-(21 : 61-dimethylpiperidino)-propyl alcohol or of salicylic acid with a 3-(21 : 61-dimethylpiperidino)-propyl halide, to give in each case the hydrohalide salt which is convertible to the free ester by treatment with alkali. Other salts of the ester may be prepared by treating it with the appropriate acid. The compounds may be used as an thetics. In examples: (1) 3-(21 : 61-dimethylpiperidino)-propyl chloride is treated with salicylic acid in isopropanol to produce 3 - (21 : 61 - dimethylpiperidino) - propyl salicylate hydrochloride, and (2) the product prepared by the method of (1) is treated with aqueous sodium hydroxide to liberate the free base. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the preparation of the products by processes of trans-esterification, condensation and replacement. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
