abstract | A coating composition for cellulose derivatives consists of an aqueous dispersion of vinylidene chloride-acrylonitrile copolymer, diacetone alcohol, dimethoxytetraethylene glycol, methyl ethyl ketone, N-cetyl betaine. The methyl ethyl ketone may be replaced by methyl propyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, butyl acetate or ethyl acetate. Other copolymers of vinylidene chloride may be used and the other component may be vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl chloracetate, vinyl chloride, vinyl bromide, methyl or butyl acrylate; methyl, isobutyl, methoxyethyl, chlorethyl or 2-nitro-2-methyl-propyl methacrylate; methyl or octyl - alpha - chloroacrylate; methyl vinyl ketone, methyl isopropenyl ketone, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile; styrene, isobutylene; vinyl naphthalene; ethyl vinyl ether, butyl vinyl ether; N-vinyl phthalimide, N-vinyl succinimide, N-vinyl carbazole; methylene diethyl malonate or mixtures of two or more of these compounds. Methods for making the copolymers are described in Specifications 501,169, 524,973, 524,975 and in U.S.A. Specifications 2,160,931, 2,160,939, 2,160,942, 2,160,943, 2,160,947. Specification 592,021, [Group VIII], also is referred to. |
