titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to closure caps for jars, bottles and like containers
abstract 615,832. Making closure caps. LOMAX, Ltd., S. C., LOMAX, S. C., and KNIGHTSON, H. Aug. 13, 1946, No. 24056. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] A sheet metal closure cap for a jar, bottle or like container is made by drawing a blank to a shallow cup 18 with an outwardly-directed radial flange 21, impressing a screw-thread 22 upon the skirt 19 of the cup and in a separate operation, rolling flange 21 over to form a part or complete cover for the threaded region 22. The thread 22 is formed by means of an inwardly-pressing tool, Fig. 4a, co-operating with a complementary mandrel 25, and the flange 21 is then rolled over by a bead-forming tool 28, Fig. 4b, also co-operating with the mandrel 25, to form a bead 31, Fig. 3, covering the greater part of thread 22.
