titleOfInvention | Improved polyvinyl chloride compositions, their manufacture and application |
abstract | A polymer of vinyl chloride or copolymer thereof with other polymerizable esters such as vinyl acetate, acrylic and methacrylic esters, or after-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, is mixed with a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer and one or more polymeric esters derived from ethylene, propylene or butylene glycol and an alkane a , o -dicarboxylic acid, the constituent glycol and acid being so chosen that the total number of carbon atoms contained in the repeating ester unit lies in the range of 9-14. Polypropylene glycol sebacate is specified. Substances such as zinc oxide, factice, sulphur, carbon, benzothiazol disulphide and phenyl beta - naphthylamine may be incorporated, followed by heating. A volatile diluent such as ethanol may be added to the composition which may be used to coat fabrics, particularly for use in flexible fuel tanks. U.S.A. Specifications 2,071,250 and 2,249,950 are referred to. The Provisional Specification discloses examples in which the compositions used contain no butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer.ALSO:A polymer, copolymer or after chlorinated polymer of vinyl chloride is mixed with a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, particularly the rubber like type, and a polymeric ester of ethylene, propylene or butylene glycol and an alkane a -w dicarboxylic acid such as sebacic acid, the glycol and acid being so chosen that the total number of carbon atoms in the repeating ester unit is from 9 - 14. Zinc oxide, sulphur, factice, and a vulcanizing accelerator may be added, followed by curing by heating. U.S.A. Specifications 2,071,250 and 2,249,950 are referred to. |
