titleOfInvention | New compositions containing water-insoluble organic polymers and water-soluble organic polymers |
abstract | An aqueous dispersion of a water-insoluble monoethylenic carbalkoxy polymer is blended with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble hydrolysed interpolymer of ethylene and one or more vinyl carboxylates. Insoluble polymers specified are methyl methacrylate and its interpolymers with vinyl chloride, vinyl fluoride, acrylonitrile and ethylene; ethyl acrylate and its interpolymers with vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride; phenyl a -chloroacrylate; interpolymers of vinyl chloride with methyl acrylate, dimethyl or diethyl fumarate or dimethyl maleate; interpolymers of vinyl fluoride and dimethyl fumarate. The vinyl carboxylate may be vinyl formate, acetate, propionate or benzoate. Pigments and fillers, e.g. titanium oxide, zinc oxide, iron oxide, antimony oxide, barium and calcium carbonates, barium sulphate, lakes, mica, powdered silicon and metals, plasticizers, dyes and synthetic resins, e.g. urea-formaldehyde, urea-melamine-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde, may be added. The compositions may be applied to glass, metal, wood, paper, leather, linen, silk, cotton, regenerated cellulose film, concrete, masonry, brick or stone, and air-dried or baked. |
