titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to the mechanical finishing of textile fabrics
abstract A process for the production of mechanical finishes on textile fabrics comprises the impregnation of the fabric with an alcohol-free aqueous solution of a methyl, ethyl or propyl ether of a precondensate of formaldehyde with an amino derivative of 1 : 3 : 5-triazine or a substitution product thereof, and, after drying, subjecting the fabric to the mechanical treatment and heating to cure the resin therein either during or after the p application of the said mechanical treatment. The preferred ether is trimethyl trimethylol melamine. Fillers and stiffeners such as starch, dextrin, gelatin and other additions such as water-proofing agents and softeners may be incorporated in the solution of the ether, or they may be applied as after-treatments. Coagulable protein, for instance, albumen, wheat gluten or casein, may also be added to the solution or may be applied to the fabric prior to the mechanical treatment. Other additions may be dyes, dyestuff derivatives and intermediates, pigments and pigment dyestuffs. Heated calender rolls may be used to assist the final condensation. In an example, a cotton fabric is impregnated with a solution of 25 parts by weight of trimethyl trimethylol melamine in 70 parts of water, dried, calendered to give a Schreiner finish and heated for 10 minutes at 140 DEG C. The finish will withstand water and moderate washing with soap. Specification 614,046 is referred to.
