titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to x-ray contrast media |
abstract | Ethers of the formula <FORM:0611747/IV(b)/1> R being a secondary alkyl group containing not less than 4 and not more than 8 carbon atoms are prepared by known methods for the production of ethers of the aromatic series from the corresponding alcohol and especially by the Williamson synthesis. According to examples: (1) the sec-octyl ether of 2 : 4 : 6-tri-iodophenol is prepared by dissolving metallic sodium in ethyl alcohol, adding 2 : 4 : 6-tri-iodophenol, when solution is complete adding sec-octyl bromide and further ethyl alcohol, and refluxing the mixture; (2) the sec-butyl ether of 2 : 4 : 6-tri-iodophenol is prepared by the procedure of example (1) by replacing sec-octyl bromide with sec-butyl bromide.ALSO:An X-ray contrast medium for internal administration comprises an ether of the formula: <FORM:0611747/VI/1> R being a secondary alkyl group containing not less than 4 and not more than 8 carbon atoms. It may be employed in solution in an oil such as poppy seed oil or in the form of aqueous dispersions incorporating, if desired, suitable dispersing and/or stabilizing agents. The ethers may also be used in admixture. |
