titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to paint compositions and method of making same |
abstract | A paint composition comprises silver particles suspended in a vehicle, said composition also containing from 1 to 10 per cent by weight of at least one silver salt selected from the class consisting of silver halides, silver tellurite, silver pyrophosphate and silver sulphate. The silver particles may be coated with the silver salt, thus in the case of silver halides, the silver particles may be reacted with an acid or a salt producing in solution the required halide (e.g. by treating the particles with hydrochloric acid in water) and in the case of silver pyrophosphate the particles may be reacted with phosphoric acid. The coating step may be carried out either in aqueous solution or in solution in an organic compound such as a homologue of pyridinium chloride. The compositions may be used for coating ceramics such as glass, mica and porcelain. |
