| abstract | Surgical sutures of absorbable protein material, e.g. surgical gut, are sealed in containers in an aqueous solution containing 65-95 per cent normal or iso-propyl alcohol by volume. If desired, the solution may also contain a germicide, e.g. .025 per cent phenyl mercuric benzoate. Reference is made to a known solution for this purpose consisting of 76 per cent ethanol, 24 per cent propanol, about 4 per cent water, with or without say .025 per cent phenyl mercuric benzoate. |
