titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of phenthiazine derivatives |
abstract | Amino derivatives of phenthiazine of the formula <FORM:0608208/IV(b)/1> (in which R1 and R2 are H or alkyl groups, R3 and R4 are alkyl groups, and n is an integer greater than 1) are made by reacting phenthiazine, or a phenthiazine in which the benzene nuclei contain alkyl or alkoxy groups, with a dialkylaminoalkyl halide in the presence of an acid-binding agent, e.g. sodamide. In examples: (1) N-diethylaminoethylphenthiazine is obtained by heating phenthiazine, xylene and sodamide under reflux and diethylaminochloroethane; N - diethylaminopropyl - phenthiazine and N - dimethylaminoethyl-phenthiazine are prepared similarly; (2) N - (31 - dimethylaminopropyl) - phenthiazine is similarly prepared from phenthiazine and 3-dimethylamino-1-chloropropane; (3) N-(21-dimethylamino-21-methylethyl)-phenthiazine is made similarly using 1-dimethylamino - 2 - chloropropane; (4) N - (21-dimethylaminoethyl) - 2 - methoxyphenthiazine is made by heating 2-methoxyphenthiazine, xylene, sodamide and dimethylamino-chloroethane; (5) N-(21-dimethylamino-21-methylethyl) -2-methoxyphenthiazine is made similarly from 2-methoxyphenthiazine and 1-dimethylamino-2-chloropropane; (6) N-(31-dimethylamino-21,21-dimethylpropyl) -phenthiazine is made similarly from phenthiazine and 1-dimethylamino-2,2-dimethyl-3-chloropropane. |
