titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to derivatives of propanoic acid and processes of preparing the same
abstract 2 - Acylamido - 3 - carboxymethylmercapto - propanoic acid and esters thereof of the formula <FORM:0606188/IV(b)/1> wherein R is an acyl group and R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl group are obtained by treating the corresponding acid with an acylating agent and where it is desired to form the esters, treating the product with an alcohol to form a di-ester. As acylating agents there may be used acetyl or propionyl halide or benzoyl chloride. Preferably, the acylation reaction is carried out in an aqueous alkaline medium at about 20 DEG C. In an example 2 - amino - 3 - carboxymethylmercaptopropanoic acid is acylated by means of benzoyl chloride and esterified with methanol. Specification 606,196 is referred to.
